Since making his debut as Papageno in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte during the Salzburger Festspiele in 1997, the Weimar-born baritone has been welcomed on all the major opera stages from the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London to the Teatro Real in Madrid, from the Wiener Staatsoper to The Metropolitan Opera in New York. Besides Wagner and Puccini, he also has contemporary operas in his repertoire.
He has appeared as a soloist with the world’s most prominent orchestras, making his debut with the Concertgebouw Orchestra in 1997. His many awards and honours include the honorary membership of London’s Royal Academy of Music and the very first Wigmore Hall Medal.
